Embracing the Workout You Love

It has been some time since I last blogged. I had every intention to get my blog going again, but after my March challenge (no online presence was part of that), the blogging became something I kept putting off as I took on new challenges.

However, a concept about fitness that I wanted to share; how I started, etc, has been weighing on my mind for quite some time. It's a philosophy, a mindset, a new way of looking at our fitness journey that might just help you rekindle your love for fitness or maybe find it for the first time.

We're all familiar with the age-old debate that has divided the fitness community: Cardio vs Weights. Article after article, study after study, argues one way or the other, trying to pinpoint which is 'the best' way to work out. But here's the fun twist - today, I’m going to rise above that theory.

Why, you ask? Because, guys, fitness is not a one-size-fits-all world. It's not about finding the perfect workout but finding the workout that is perfect for YOU.

A New Perspective
Instead of trying to figure out what's better between cardio and weights, why not start by figuring out what you enjoy? A simple concept, but one that often gets buried under the chatter about optimum exercise routines and the 'right' way to work out. Theres so much noise & ambiguity out there in the fitness world. It’s so easy to try & fail at something you, frankly, find utterly boring. In my opinion, the perfect exercise is one that makes you feel alive, something you can lose yourself in, a space where you forget about the world and its worries and just enjoy the process. That’s how I started. That’s how I stay dedicated.

It could be running in the fresh morning air, your heartbeat in rhythm with your strides. Or perhaps weightlifting, feeling the surge of strength as you hoist that barbell over your head. It could even be a dance/Zumba class, or a calming Yoga session. The point is: find what you love and do it consistently.

A Smart Approach
Our well-being extends beyond just physical fitness. That's why our health journey should also focus on nourishing our bodies with good food, and our minds with positive moments.

Let's talk nutrition. There’s so much pressure to diet in specific ways, eat this and not that, but really, a mindful approach to eating that focuses on wholesome, nutritious food that you enjoy is more than enough. You don't need to deny yourself the occasional treat, nor do you need to jump on every diet trend that sweeps across the internet. Again, not a one-size-fits-all my friends. Testing out a new way of fuelling & experimenting with what feels good is the best way forward. You’ll know if eating a certain type of food gives you energy or leaves you lacklustre. So try to make smart choices with this knowledge.

And let's not forget mindfulness. It's our secret weapon in a world that’s too noisy, too demanding. For me, being out in nature is my mindfulness. Your mindfulness could be a walk in the park, or it could be a quiet meditation session in your living room. Find your peace, find your quiet.

Above the Noise
In the end, what we're aiming for here is to rise above the confusion. There’s way too much ambiguity & confusing advice in the workout community about what you should or shouldn't do. And yes, research and expert advice are valuable. But so is your happiness and peace of mind.

So, my message to you today is this: find what you love, do it consistently, eat mindfully, and take time for tranquility. This is your personal recipe to improve yourself. Forget about 'the best way' and instead, focus on 'your best way'. You'll find that fitness is not just about physical change, but a journey of joy, growth, and inner happiness.

Love, Gigi x
