How I Got Started

Ah, my first ever post! I set this blog up ages ago, but only now do I feel the urge to utilise it. My aim is to update it each Sunday with my thoughts, progress, tips and tricks to help anyone out there with their own fitness journey. I don’t just mean fitness of the body. Yesterday I read an interesting article about how fitness changes the brain and assists with mental health issues. I’ve posted it below:

My journey started almost two years ago. Kinda crazy to think it’s been that long. But I quickly became addicted to a morning workout through the first lockdown in 2020. I did the live PE with Joe sessions every morning, mostly because the routine, feelings of happiness (endorphins) and ability to connect with a live session that thousands of other people were also doing helped me to feel good in lots of ways. I’d dabbled in fitness a lot over the previous 10 years. But I started to commit myself to the routine properly this time. It felt good and the physical changes came pretty quickly.

I also started the Keto diet. I’d done it before successfully and I knew that I wanted to start to fuel my exercise with a healthier diet- keto seemed to make sense to me. Cutting out most carbs and sugars was hard at first. But utilising my ability to say ‘no’ gave me the dopamine fix and sense of achievement.

During this time my self-esteem was at an all time high. After years of having low worth and stress, although life still has its own set of problems during a pandemic and lockdown, I started to like myself. A lot. This was a complete revelation to me and I wanted more of it!

So here I am today. Two years on. Things have fluctuated in that time. Considerably. But it’s all part of the journey. I’ve learnt so much. I’d like to share some of this with you here each week.

Love, Gigi x
